Grown Up Autism

SO Proud to BE Nominated! Take a bow everybody!!

SO Proud to BE Nominated! Take a bow everybody!!

Grown Up Autism…

That’s exactly where we are headed as a culture, shifting away from an outdated Autism ’thought bubble’ that people have been stuck in. The bubble that does not see Autism as it is. A bubble of thought that does not value Autistic children or adults enough… to honor their powerful Autistic points of view. A bubble that  does not even identify Autistic people as equals. A bubble we seek to burst!  This narrow view that has heretofore hindered the grown up Autistic vision we believe, perceive and offer the world.

A vision which includes a world full of “physical and emotional equality supports” for Autistic people at all ages and stages.

Our big beautiful picture of equanimity.

On the highway to the 7th Annual ANCA World Autism Festival this ‘thought bubble divide’ strikes me now more than ever, as the true cause of the Autism divide. A divide prevalent between most professionals together with some parents of Autistic people and the Autistic people themselves actively co-creating and advocating in the community for their own unalienable rights.

The "thought bubble DIVIDE"

The “thought bubble DIVIDE”

“Great Autism Divide.”

Equality for Autistic people is unequivocal. It is or it isn’t, you either get that…or you don’t. The schism of people that have juvenile ideas about Autism equality and how to interact with and perceive Autistic people VS the people that have very adult ideas about Autism equality and how to interact with and perceive Autistic people…

As I board the plane from LAX to the 2016 ANCA World Autism Festival in Vancouver this concept circles and hovers over my brain as if my mind is the airport runway control tower…

AutismHWY UNITED with ANCA Naturally Autistic

AutismHWY UNITED with ANCA Naturally Autistic

United Minds, HeARTS and Souls

After five years away, landing in ANCA territory felt like a warm welcoming home. The 2011 INAP Award’s Event we attended, meant the world to us. Connecting with young and old that respect Autism on joyful adult levels was the most refreshing thing felt then and again, in the  NOW! Every delegate and participant from 81 to 4 yrs. old traveling to Vancouver for ANCA’s festival is energetically changed forever. The full board of acceptance and understanding brings abundance to the table everyday of this gathering. It’s a visceral and sensual bounty of goodness for Autistic people, their families and the industry seeking to support them ALL. A naturally rich community brimming with the knowledge that we all have something wonderful to contribute with or without the competiton. Having that direct experience of connection to Autistic culture opens hearts, minds and arms toward the myriads of difference life gifts to us ALL. A natural unspoken knowledge of alignment exists within the participants of the ANCA World Autism Festival . Unleashing a co creative flow which is vibrant, successful  and unstoppable.

Co creating Autistic equality globally…

Uniting people that want to follow Autistic advice is a very powerful connection. People and companies that seek to employee Autistic people into the infrastructure of their organizations and events is what we seek. It is what levels the so called ” playing field.” It’s what has already been created in many instances. COMPLETELY in the instance of Naturally Autistic ANCA;

Autistic People creating a worldwide EVENT which becomes a platform for Autistic People to emerge from while launching careers and connection to culture!

This IS the future for Autistic people and most importantly the world. Respecting that there are differing ways of EQUALLY experiencing the world and that Autistic people are creating a world more naturally inclusive of the entire human experience. Experiences that many people in society have honestly glossed over and denied. Experiences Autistic people demand. Beautiful natural experiences vibrating in every moment of the ANCA World Autism Festival.

Every innovative and loving person can be involved in creating best practice for Autistic people by respecting Autistic people as EQUALS in this human experience regardless, of our systemic differentials. Creating new and innovative ways which make sense to and for Autistic comfort and success! That is what the ANCA World Autism Festival is really all about.

Chalking What WE Believe!

At we don’t just walk the walk or talk the talk we also chalk the chalk! We CHALK what we believe IN......

The AutismHWY we roll on is chalked UP with street art for diversity. Calling attention to artful texts that need viewing in a mainstream festival environment. Enlightening dismal societal Autism views that have darkened the last century for Autistic people and those of us that love them.

Turning on bright lights and Autistic thought bubbles for people is exactly what we are ALL about!

Our mission is most important and our idea of a good time! It is also precisely why we have created and annually produce the Chalk Festival in Downtown Covina California! A festival for Autistic people, partnering with them and centering everything around their comfort, rights and needs!  #ChalkOn !

This will be the 4th time participating as a street Artist for Autistic rights chalking at the LARGEST CHALK FESTIVAL on the planet! The Pasadena Chalk Festival which falls on Father’s Day weekend each and every year for the last 23 years here in the heART of our San Gabriel Valley!
2013 was my first year joining all of the amazing talent that congregates at this spectacular event. My designs have always consisted of; spectral colors fitted together like paint draping our brains in a colorfully neurodiverse learning curve!

I chalk what I believe in and I believe in Autistic people.
Autistic pride
They are and have been valid world citizens on this planet from the beginning of time. That was really spelled out for the world last summer when the best selling book ‘NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity’ written by Steve Silberman hit the streets. I believe in this book so much…I laid it right down for all to see…

This year’s Pasadena chalking event is this weekend and once again I will be chalking up what I believe IN. I will be replicating The Movie Poster for the amazing NEW Documentary ‘Connected: A Film About Autistic People’ produced by Charlie and Leonora Collura directed by Sonia Suvagau. I had the pleasure of attending it’s screening at the Life Fest Film Festival in Los Angeles at the end of April. I was completely wowed and reviewed the film here Such love, light and reality. Something that is all too often very hard to find in the Autism industry. As we have repeatedly told our readers: Easy to find when you go to the source…Autistic people, of course!

Just last week the documentary was screened at the Hoboken International Film Festival in New York and was among the 4 nominees for Best documentary film of the entire Festival!! I could not be more excited to be chalking my spin on this beautiful Movie Poster. A film full of amazing vignettes that don’t just ‘scratch the surface.’ This film is built upon thousands of hours of work and the deep layered connections that are indeed like a fine painting. Decades of connections built by Autistic people for their grid on their infra structure at their speed. It is perfectly and ‘Naturally Autistic’ as the name states. Let’s hope my ART can do that, JUSTICE!

No posing or pretending to be anything but simply and wonderfully themselves…presented stunningly as they are. BRAVO to ANCA Naturally Autistic, to the entire team of amazing people on screen and behind the scenes. I only hope my chalk rendition of your masterpiece honors you ALL. xo

STAY TUNED for photos to follow…

It was fantastic to see ANCA Naturally Autistic in L.A. today on the ‘Big Screen.’ In the midst of a turbulent year the Life Fest Film Fest chose to screen the fantastic and wonderfully calming 60 minute documentary “Connected: A Film About Autistic People” directed by Sonia Suvagau, executive produced by Charlie and Leonora Collura the founders of ANCA.
The film follows friends and participants at the 5th Annual INAP International Naturally Autistic People Awards and World Autism Festival held in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2014. The connections so clearly seen in the film jump off of the screen right into your heart. The exchange of Autistic energy is a very high vibration and it shines through with brilliant force and enlightenment in the films entirety.

The interaction amongst Autistic friends and family members is something tangible that is very hard to describe. Yet once you have experienced it you won’t soon forget the feelings evoked. One such film festival goer had to tell those of us watching with Leonora and Charlie that he felt “energized” by viewing the film. I just had to giggle because I know full well of what he speaks. It’s undeniable and it is a HIGH. A high vibration of acceptance that filters out the ‘human ideals’ we have all been forced to assimilate into. Ideals that do not always go hand and hand with our innate humanity and our individual systemology.

Seeing so many honest and lighthearted Autistic moments seemed to transport me back in time to the 2nd Annual INAP Awards Festival of 2011 that AutismHWY attended in Vancouver, Canada. People from around the globe working from the heart to create support systems for creative expression and complete connection. It’s what ANCA has naturally done for 22 years and seeing those energetic results on film was truly magnetic. Exactly the energy felt four years ago when life changing connections were made over that year’s 3-day event.
The empowered Autistic children and adults that participate in this annual event are sharing their dreams with the world so the world will share their dreams. AutismHWY firmly believes in the power of Autistic people and this film is just proof that seeing IS believing!

It’s FAN’flippin’TASTIC!!

I couldnt resist! That is how we are  feeling like shouting it from the roof-tops down. “Here we are and we are coming at ya!”A whole NEW generation of Autistic People the likes of~ this world has never seen! ….Well, honestly they have. They just didn’t know what they were looking at!! ie: Albert Einstein,  Isaac Newton, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Darwin, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Michelangelo etc…etc…lol!

The founders of ANCA Naturally Autistic should be lauded for their tenacity and lifetime vision. The vision of a “Real World” for Autistic people to live in. A world dictated by nature and a more comfortable approach for successes. Not the “Appropriate Behavior” warriors so harsh and unknowing. It is a shift in perceptions. A change in dynamics. Where understanding becomes the approach. Not uncomfortable conformity. It is a balance that demands to be achieved. The balance that Leonora Gregory Collura and Charlie Collura have created at Naturally Autistic ANCA. Now looking to share that balancing act GLOBALLY!

Their rich blend of lives experiences and their Autistic minds create a direct and elegant approach. ‘Understanding the paradigm from the inside out’ is so quintescentially ANCA! Exactly why they trademarked the phrase in the 90′s! “The inside-out”, where it makes the most sense to start. More correct information from an inside source. Now joined with many voices from the spectrum speaking up to pool resources. Sharing the more useful information about Autism and the elaborate nature of it all. The world’s senses will now experience the full flavor. Not just the vanilla that everyone has been spoon fed by non-Autistic minds. The stereotypical picture we have all seen of the sad Autistic child sitting all alone as the other kids bicker and fight, while laughing and playing in the background. Let’s tell the real story! That like life, Autism comes in many more flavors than Vanilla !  Autistic people are NOT stereotypes they are flesh and blood people. Our population is made up of real people~ with real talent ~ that have real challenges ~ and most importantly are really determined to be understood, accepted and aknowledged !!   THAT is the real story….

The story that will be told on Friday, Saturday and Sunday~ Sept 23rd, 24th, & 25th. In Vancouver , B.C. Canada 2011 @ The 2nd ANNUAL INT’L NATURALLY AUTISTIC PEOPLE AWARDS & CONVENTION

Read the program here in an 8 PAGE~FLIP-FORMAT~….

UTTERLY FANTASTIC…like I said !! & such sensory fun  to FLIP ~the Pages!!

The quality and passion driving these artists is undeniable!! Such beauty and strength the future holds for them. A Flip of the Self-Esteem switch has happened and there is no turning it off!!. Just AWESOME!  The value and worth within the community will stimulate the planet…a planet that needs cognition stimulation and economic growth. New minds with differing perspectives are needed as demonstrated  by this years ~Keynote speaker & Workshop leader Academic Lars Perner. We had a fascinating conversation about  just that on our radio show last week. Listen in here…

Amazing vision and growth we believe will occur by harnessing the unique and brilliant talents of so many Autistic minds in conjunction with the rest of the world!! BRAVO to everyone involved with the 2011 2nd Annual Int’l Naturally Autistic People Awards and Convention!

So, JOIN US please in celebration of the POWER of diversity!
