We ARE Free!

Free to love, accept and understand AUTISM! The Independance to choose happiness and peace with your existence. Exactly what this holiday is designed for. I am exhilerated to see that this choice is becoming quite popular. In the 2 yrs. AutismHWY.com has been on the web the momentum has been remarkable! Autistic People and Families on the Spectrum are going strong recruiting others into this wonderful, uplifting army of information and ACCEPTANCE!

It is an exciting time indeed seeing a shift in society’s understanding of the human brain stimulated by the Autistic mind.

Almost daily new ideas fostering creativity and inclusion for Autistic people are being created and implemented! Platforms of support and opportunity being raised like a new barn by the folks in a loving and helpful community! It truly is remarkable. Meeting the people behind all of this hard work and ingenuity has been a deep blessing for myself and family here on the AutismHWY. I have met and continue to meet so many enriched people. Enriched by the journey Autism has taken us on. Self Advocate and astute business woman Temple Grandin speaks of the doors for opportunity and how to make those doors open. To be yourself, Autism or no Autism and get on with the living and working!! Just that simple. As Leonora Gregory Collura has brilliantly coined with her company name years ago~ ”Naturally Autistic”…define and accept the process and work with it. Be your self, it is really all a person can do! FREE yourselves of others standards and expectations and create NEW,  more appropriate standards for yourself! That IS the American way afterall! The human way.

 Amazing People…Doing amazing things!!

CHALK heART!!

Whew….I am soO happy and still processing all that occured during our 2nd Annual AutismHWY.com Chalk Festival!!  Wyatt and I feel especially blessed to have this fantastic spectrum of friends! The day was a true success in every sense of the word! Making friends with Autism was on all of our itineraries for FUN.

I do believe that happened for all in attendance including Mr. Kevin Stapleton the mayor of Covina!!

He was having a grand time meeting the many talented individuals the Chalk Art attracted. He heard the many stories from families and friends. He spoke eloquently when Exceptional Minds was given their 2011 ANCA Naturally Autistic Award, and he was down with the Artists as they colored perceptions experientially! Truly awesome. He took the time to talk with most every person there. It was a pleasure to see the expressions of joy, validation and self worth this triggered. I am wishing for April 2013 already!! Funny just how contagious this chalk-joy is!!  Have a look for yourselves…….  I want to thank everyone that made it to the event!! A very special thankyou to multi talented artist/actor/singer songwriter Michael Harding for taking the time out to sing his awesome  Autism anthem” Change a Life”…you Rock Mike!!

PLEASE MAKE PLANS TO JOIN US IN 2013!!!

FIND YOUR FORMULA!

HI THERE, HI THERE, HI THERE! (?) !! I just came from tucking Wyatt in and I truly HEARD …a sing-songy version of the above mentioned! I’ve heard it before, just like ; YADA,YADA,YADA & DIGA,DIGA,DIGA. Along with several other … variations on a theme that have rotated in & out over the years. But there was something different about this time.

I exclaimed “Wyatt, you SAID Hi There!!” He proudly giggled…into a chirp simultaneously bouncing on belly, burying face in pillow! So between the two of us we said it a hundred times giggling and bouncing! Then I asked him the big question, “are you going to tell everyone hi there at school tomorrow?” He looked at me with the BIGGEST-WYATT smile giggling..”hi there hi there hi there.” So, I am happy to believe him as I sit here in this moment. I will go to sleep and hope my sweet boy keeps his loving words! In the morning we will find out at…www.leroyhaynes.org ! If nothing else…he and I just had an incredible moment, that isn’t going anywhere! Such as life… in our autistic world, incredible moment after incredible moment (with the occasional meltdowns!)

WE ALL KNOW how our kids amaze us everyday. Fighting little spirits of pure heart! Kids that like all others want to be comfortable and happy. Which is quite the feat sometimes with the cards that have been dealt them. It can be like a science experiment learning how to make each individual comfortable in their own skin!

As parents of these beautiful people we begin to make a FORMULA. A formula that works for your child and family. When you are lucky you are surrounded with people that understand this. Schools that will take an “out of the box” approach like Leroy Haynes. Tailor making a program geared toward the individual needs of each child. It is also important to realize that some “traditional teaching methods” usually just don’t work for autistics.

Wyatt’s school has changed his whole demeanor. Even though he is NON-VERBAL I sense that he feels better understood. He is blessed to attend a school that takes the time to keep up with all emerging ideas and inform the community with FREE GUEST SPEAKERS and TRAININGS! www.autismmovementtherapy.com

Just today…a massage therapist came to the school! When I picked Wyatt up I was informed that he was the one that had the longest massage!! I wasn’t surprised!!! Think…SQUEEZEBOX! HEY, now it’s dawning on me … if I want WORDS I”ll need to get my massage therapist certification!!!

WYATT’S WEIGHTED VEST was made by Suzanne Stone…an A~LEAGUE MOM!! Her site is http://www.snuffleco.com
